Hi folks, I am Vivek, an IBM Maximo developer. I just started to share Maximo's knowledge. Whatever I learn and whatever I have, I will encourage your support.
In this post, I would like to share my experience working on different flavors or industry solutions of Maximo during my 3 years of working experience as a developer, functional consultant, and support engineer.
IBM Maximo for Life Science
This version is specialized for the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, helping manage assets and comply with regulatory requirements such as Drug Administration regulations. During this project, I worked with an onsite US-based life science client, where we worked on the following aspects in Maximo.
Equipment Maintenance: Life Sciences companies rely heavily on specialized equipment for research, development, and production processes. Maximo helps manage the maintenance of this equipment by scheduling preventive maintenance tasks, tracking equipment downtime, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Regulatory Compliance: Life sciences companies must adhere to strict regulatory standards, such as Drug Administration regulations and guidelines. Maximo provides tools to document and demonstrate compliance, including electronic record keeping, audit trails, and validation documentation. So we have loaded documents such as asset calibration certificates and maintenance reports against each critical asset so that they're used during audits to avoid the compliance issue.
Inventory Management: Life Sciences organizations have a huge amount of daily consumables, chemicals, and other materials used in research and production. It enables efficient procurement, inventory tracking, and stock replenishment to avoid stockouts and minimize waste.
Asset Tracking and Traceability: We build some KPI in and result set in IBM Maximo which enables the monitoring of the location, status, and usage history of critical assets which they used in there day to day activity. which help them to maintain the integrity of sensitive hazardous chemical materials, tracking sample provenance, and ensuring product traceability. so we work around data exchange between Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) to provide the correct analytical data to provide insight of asset performance and and operational efficiency.
IBM Maximo Service Provider(SP)
A service provider is organization that provides services to another party like end users or to the other organizations. which basically onboard the customer and have the fixed Customer agreement for service to manage assets or locations and services for their customers as a business and charge accordingly for these services.
So basically there are few new applications and some extended application introduced in this add on or solution which are as follow.
Customer, Customer Agreement. Agreement Price Schedules, Service Address, Customer Billing, Billing Review, Response Plan, Work order Tracking(SP)….
Maximo for Service Providers helps companies who manage other companies' or users assets and provide maintenance for those assets or to location. With Maximo, the service provider can handle customer agreements, which spell out the services provided, the price for managing the assets, and the cost for each maintenance task. As maintenance work is logged, prices are calculated based on the agreement's rules. At the billing period's end, the service provider gathers all transactions, including charges for maintenance tasks, asset management based on the number and type of assets, usage charges, and any additional fees. These charges are reviewed together (Bill review) before being sent to the accounting system for payment.
Based on service requests, and work orders, the service provider creates billing transactions and obtains payment from the customer who created a SR Ticket along with it invoice sent to customer for the acceptance of billing rates as per the agreement.
Customer Agreement: A customer agreement is like a contract between a company and its customer. It includes details like where the customer lives and does business, along with the basic terms like when it starts and ends, how often they'll get billed, and so on. Inside the agreement, there are also price schedules that explain how prices for different services are calculated. Once an agreement is approved, you can't change it, but you can make a new version if needed. If the new version gets approved, it replaces the old one.
Service Address: The Service Address is the place where the job will happen or where materials will be sent. These addresses are linked to specific places, or they might be inherited from a related location. Just like with a customer, when a location is connected to a ticket, work order, the Service Address details are automatically included in that SR ticket or work order.
Customer Billing: The Billing application helps manage billing in batches. Each batch is made for a specific customer agreement and follows the billing schedule outlined in the agreement. It includes all the completed work orders, tickets, and wok orders from the billing period, along with any transactions that haven't been billed from previous periods. Service Providers use this application to check and adjust transactions as needed before sending them to their accounting system for invoicing. They can also let their customers review the batch before invoicing. There's another application, Bill Review, which gives customers a secure and simplified view of the batch.
IBM Maximo Oil And Gas
Targeted at the oil and gas industry, this version assists in managing assets across upstream, midstream, and downstream operations, including drilling rigs, pipelines, and refineries.
The oil and gas industry operates in a dynamic and demanding environment, where asset reliability, operational efficiency, and safety are paramount.
Asset Management: Since these assets are operated on the rig site or at a well site within the depths of the sea or in the middle of the sea away from the from the land surface, they have to take care of such assets that need to be operational when the actual rigup happens at the rig site to avoid circumstances, and if an asset fails at that location or at the production rig site, it's a very big loss to the drilling company.. By centralizing asset data and providing real-time visibility into asset health and performance, Maximo helps organizations optimize asset utilization, reduce downtime, and extend asset lifespan.
Preventive Maintenance and Compliance: To avoid the downtime of assets and ensure the reliability and safety of assets, Maximo here supports setting the maintenance of assets depending on their usage, either time-based or frequency-based. Since these assets are being used in highly risky places like rig sites, if there is any issue with them, it will cause an oil leak and an incident like the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, which will lead to the loss of everything. Maximo helps minimize the risk of unplanned downtime and costly equipment failures. Moreover, Maximo's robust compliance management capabilities ensure that oil and gas companies adhere to industry regulations and standards, thereby reducing the risk of fines and penalties.
Inventory and Supply Chain Management: Efficient inventory and supply chain management are essential for oil and gas companies to maintain operational continuity and minimize costs.
Workforce Management and Safety: Working in the oil and gas industry can be dangerous, with workers facing many risks. Maximo helps with things like planning and sending out work orders and giving field engineers access to information on their phones, tablets, or other devices that are integrated with CMMS. Maximo makes work easier while making sure everyone follows safety rules. By giving field engineers instant access to information about equipment and safety rules, Maximo helps reduce risks and make workplaces safer overall.
